Grown Where

Privacy policy

Grown Where is a free website about where America's food is grown. You don't need an account, and we don't ask who you are. Visiting any website still sends some technical information, so this page explains what happens to it.

Who runs this site

Grown Where is operated by Patrick Stevens ("we", "us"), based in Washington State, United States. Contact: contact@patrickws.com.

In short

  • No accounts, sign-ups, forms, comments or newsletters.
  • No cookies. The only thing saved in your browser is your light or dark mode choice, if you pick one.
  • No advertising or marketing trackers today.
  • We don't sell or share personal information, and we don't track you across other websites.
  • Vercel hosts the site and gives us aggregate page-view statistics.

Page-view analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Its script sends page-view data to Vercel. According to Vercel, the data points may include the time of the visit, the page address and route, the referring site, filtered query parameters, approximate location (country, region and city), device type, operating system and browser and their versions, and the analytics script version.

Vercel describes this service as cookieless analytics for aggregate statistics. It creates a visitor hash from the incoming request, and the visitor session is discarded after 24 hours; that doesn't mean every analytics record is deleted after 24 hours, because aggregate statistics are kept under Vercel's service and plan terms. We look at totals only. We don't use analytics to identify individual visitors or follow them to other sites.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel. This happens on every visit, separate from analytics. To deliver pages, Vercel's servers process your IP address and details of each request, such as the page requested and your browser. Vercel may keep this information in operational and security logs, use it to run and protect its service, and process it outside your country, including in the United States. We don't use hosting logs to identify visitors. Vercel's privacy policy explains how it handles this information.

Fonts, maps, display settings and links

The site's fonts, map shapes and map data are served from this website, not from third-party services, so loading them doesn't send your information to anyone else.

If you use the light/dark mode button at the top of the page, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the next page opens the same way. It stays on your device, is never sent to us or anyone else, and contains nothing about you. Choosing your device's own setting again removes it, and clearing your browser's site data deletes it.

On the build-your-plate page, the ingredients you choose are written into the page address so you can share the link. They aren't stored anywhere else, and they aren't personal information.

We link to other websites, such as USDA, Vercel and our sister sites. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.

Advertising

There are no ads on Grown Where today. If we add them later, advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure ads. Before that happens, we'll update this page to explain which partners we use, what they collect and how you can opt out, and we'll provide any consent or opt-out choices the law requires where you live.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We don't track visitors across other websites and we don't sell or share personal information, so there is currently nothing for these signals to switch off. If that changes, we'll honor opt-out signals as the law requires and update this page.

The data on this site

The crop, livestock and farm figures are published statistics about states and counties from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. They aren't records about individual people. NASS itself withholds figures that could reveal information about individual farms, and we show those as withheld. See Sources and methodology.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example, in a US state with a privacy law, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), you may have rights over your personal information, such as asking to know, access, correct or delete it, or to object to its use. Email us and we'll respond as the law requires. Because we don't keep visitor profiles, we may not be able to match analytics or hosting records to you. You can also contact Vercel directly about the information it processes.

Children

The site is for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If what we collect changes, for example if we add advertising, we'll update this page before the change takes effect and change the date at the top.
